Randomness in Editing – Today I Researched Jeans
The best advice I can give a writer is to just write. Forget about the details. Forget about grammar, syntax, and spelling. If you are in your first draft, you should just be pouring out the ideas on paper.
After that first draft, you can then revise and work on the details.
After the final draft is ready, then you can send it to the editor.
As an editor I have the distinct pleasure of checking your work. Sometimes that requires a little bit of research.
Today my research was on jeans. I have a client’s story that takes place in the late 1800s wild west era. One of the characters entered the scene wearing jeans. Being a thorough editor, I made sure that jeans were in fact around at that time and that they were called jeans.
My research led me to rant a bit about the popular clothing piece. Maybe I was just tired, but I found it all very interesting.
